Latin America Film Festival 2019

In collaboration with the Latin America embassies, LiveLife, and Utown, and Jakarta Cinema Club, Latin America Film Festival was held on the 23 February - 3 March 2019. Movies that were screened [ESAS] included:

  • Bad Lucky Goat (Colombia): After accidentally killing a bearded goat with their father's truck, two incompatible siblings in their teenage years, embark on a journey of reconciliation.

  • Riu (Chile): A physical and spiritual journey of the last heir from the ancestral culture of oral tradition that remains on Easter Island: María Elena Hotus. Before dying she has taken the decision to leave her legacy and appoint as her successor to her daughter, Aru Pate Hotus, an island that must fight against the deeply rooted and prejudiced patriarchal society.

  • The Son of the Bride (Argentina): At age 42, Rafael Belvedere is having a crisis. He lives in the shadow of his father, he feels guilty about rarely visiting his aging mother, his ex-wife says he doesn't spend enough time with their daughter and he has yet to make a commitment to his girlfriend. At his lowest point, a minor heart attack reunites him with Juan Carlos, a childhood friend, who helps Rafael to reconstruct his past and look at the present in new ways.

  • La Tola Box (Ecuador): Beyond the punches, boxing paints a complex portrait of life itself - its obstacles, the discipline, the commitment. With the stories of a child aspiring boxer, and a young amateur boxer, the film weaves a tale about the triumph of human spirit both in ring and in life.
